Keep Your Home Feeling Delightful This Winter

Though we don’t experience very harsh winters here in McKinney, it can still be a very tough time for a lot of folks! Between the cold temperatures, the lack of sunlight, and the need to stay inside this year, there’s a lot that can leave you feeling a little blue. Use these tips to add some much-needed sunshine and joy to your winter!

Let The Light In

When the sun is shining, be sure to open your curtains and blinds to let as much light in as possible – especially in the morning. Not only will it brighten your disposition, but it will help warm your home naturally which can save you money on your power bill for the month!

Greenify Your Home

If you don’t already have a few (or more than a few) houseplants, you should really consider adding a few to your home. Not only do they help to purify the air in your home, but they also can help improve your overall happiness and mood. Just know that plants typically do not grow very much in the winter and many plants kill off leaves in the winter – your plant (probably) isn’t dying, it’s just in self-preservation mode.

Hack Your Heat

It’s usually easier to heat things up than to cool them down, and the same can be said of your home. With a couple of easy hacks, you can add or more efficiently use the heat in your home to keep you toasty all winter.

  • Leave the oven open after you finish cooking. You’ve already paid to heat the oven up to cook dinner and you can get the most out of that energy by leaving the oven open after you turn it off.
  • Be sure to change your ceiling fan’s direction for winter. There should be a little switch on your fan that changes the rotation from counterclockwise (which produces cool air in the warm months) to clockwise which can help push warm air down into the room. Heat rises, and a clockwise fan on low speed can actually help distribute heat into your home.
